Algae Treatment

4 days to sparkling clean water

Day 1

Remove any automatic pool cleaner such as a Baracuda from the water

Brush the walls and the bottom of the pool This step is very important! Algae clinging to the walls of the pool has a greater resistance to chlorine and other chemicals than algae that is suspended in the water.

Adjust the pH to 7.2 to ensure the water chemistry is correctly balanced. Remember, algae thrives in a high pH environment and subsequent superchlorination will raise the pH level

In the evening, superchlorinate the pool with:

(a) 10 litres of LIQUID CHLORINE or
(b) 1kg of HTH EXTRA

Day 2

AM
add 500ml (s/m) 1 litre (L/xL) of CONCENTRATED ALGAECIDE

PM
broadcast 500 g (s/m) 1kg (L/xL) of OXIDIZER over the surface of the water

Day 3

At this point the water should have turned from green to a cloudy blue-grey colour.
This is good! The change in colour means that you have killed the algae and can now you can clean out the pool. If the water still has a tint of green to it, the algae is still alive and you must repeat the first 2 days of treatment. To clean up dead algae:

Add 500ml (s/m) 1 litre (l/xL) of CLARIFIER

IMPORTANT! Let the pump run for 12 hours (this clumps the algae into vacuumable pieces), and then shut it off for 12 hours (this settles all the algae to the bottom of your pool). Day 4 Vacuum your pool with the filter set to "Waste" or "Drain"

This stops any algae from returning to the pool! In the evening, superchlorinate the pool with:

(a) 10 litres of LIQUID CHLORINE or
(b) 1 kg of HTH EXTRA

Avoid future algae attacks! Take a sample of your pool water to Boldt Pools for a phosphate test and ask your Boldt staff about using Phosfree Pool Perfect as part of your weekly maintenance program.

Day 4

Vacuum your pool slowly with the filter set to waste or drain position.

This stops any dead algae from returning to the pool. In the evening, super chlorinate the pool using 1 kg of HTH EXTRA or 10 litres of LIQUID CHLORINE.

TO avoid future algae attacks, take a sample of your pool water to Boldt Pools for a complete analysis.

REPEAT DAY 1 UNTIL THE COLOUR IS GONE!
